Baikunthapur Tarun Sangha (BTS) is a community-based organization dedicated to fostering sustainable development in the country’s remote villages and environmentally critical Sunderban region, recognized by UNESCO as both a Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site.

The organization is strategically located in a remote village of Baikunthapur in the Sunderban Delta, close to the Bay of Bengal and far from the metropolitan city of Kolkata.

Our Work

Quality Education

  BTS runs a primary school establised in 1983 that serves a unique community in our region in our region. Most of our students come from families with limited means .Their parents typically engage in agriculture, fishing, wood

Health & Nutrition

In the Sunderban Regions, where our school and residential hostel children live below the poverty line, we are committed to offering essential nutritional support. Noticing the alarmingly low BMI levels among these students


We advocate for the restoration of ecosystems through nature-based solutions. Our efforts involve reforestation, habitat preservation and sustainable land use to safeguard biodiversity and strengthen the natural environment.

Community Led Development Process

Care and Protection

In the Sunderban Regions, acknowledging the challenges faced by beggars, single men and women, and other marginalized members of the community, a dedicated Assistance Programme has been initiated.

Women Empowerment

BTS has initiated a project to enhance existing women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and spread micro-credit benefits in new areas. Their goal is to boost women’s independence and economic growth.

Disaster Response

In times of crisis, we swiftly mobilize disaster response teams to provide immediate relief to affected communities. Our efforts include food, shelter, medical assistance and emotional support, aiding in recovery and rebuilding after disasters strike.
